One of our valued clients just asked us to share their unfortunate experience.
An Elderly Couple was surprised by a flooded basement with water that was approximately three feet deep. Their 11-year-old Water Heater Ruptured from the top and spewed water for an undetermined amount of time. To make matters worse, their sump pump also failed and could not extract the majority of the flood water.
They called in their Insurance Company, Who Advised Them To Immediately Call In A Water Restoration Company To Mitigate the Damage. After the Water Restoration Company did their job, the Insurance Company came in to Assess the Damage. As it turned out, the Insurance Company Denied their claim due to the old age of their Water Heater! This event left the elderly couple having to pay over $11,000 in Water Restoration expenses.
In addition, they had the expense of replacing their Water Heater, sump pump and their Furnace unit which was destroyed by the flood. On top of all this, they were still facing the reconstruction cost estimated to be $25,000 to $30,000 to complete.
Our client also asked us to tell all of our clients to ensure they have an Insurance Rider. This would be a rider covering most any flood event in the home.
